Armida are celebrating the success of Robert Thorogood, who at the age of 23 has become the youngest member of their team to qualify for membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Robert was offered a training contract with Armida at the age of 18, immediately after finishing his A-levels, and began studying for his Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) examinations. Following the successful completion of the AAT qualification, the next stage in his career development program was to become a Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW. Robert discovered he had passed his finals at the end of August, making him eligible for membership of the ICAEW, Europe’s largest professional accounting body.

Throughout his training Robert has taken advantage of the comprehensive mentoring programme Armida have provided, drawing on skills and knowledge of more experienced colleagues, whilst at the same time gaining essential practical experience.

HR Director, Helen Toole, explains “At Armida we recognize our people are our strongest asset and have seen the benefits of providing a fully supported professional career development program for our staff. Robert is the youngest member of our team to succeed in becoming a Chartered Accountant and member of the ICAEW and we are very proud of his achievements. He has worked extremely hard over the last five years to reach this level and has taken every opportunity to further his knowledge and gain practical experience. It is extremely important to us at Armida to be able to support our people in this way, not only because it means we have another qualified accountant on our team, but our people are more motivated and happy as a result of our investment in them.”

Robert commented “I am delighted to have gained membership of the ICAEW after juggling my studies with my full time career for the last five years. With the support of my employers, I hope to continue my career development and undertake further training to specialize in corporate finance.”

Three more members of the team, Stephen Bolton, Richard Appleyard and Sam Barnard have recently achieved exam success as they too work towards their ACCA and ICAEW qualifications.
